Festival of Learning at Cyfarthfa Castle June 20 – The Dowlais Settlement Schools – Talk and Art Tour The Dowlais Settlement School changed many people’s lives during the depression. It brought world renowned artists to the town and paired them with unemployed workers. This talk and guided tour will go over this amazing history and showcase art work create at the time.

Festival of Learning at Cyfarthfa Castle - Introduction to sculpting - Jun 24, 2018

Festival of Learning at Cyfarthfa Castle June 24 – Introduction to sculpting In 1928, a sculptor named John Dennithorne came to Dowlais and taught unemployed workers how to sculpt. The sculpture they created is the inspiration for this workshop. Come along and learn the basics of sculpting and creating 3D art.

Dabbers & Daubers: Monthly art sessions for children - Jul 1, 2018

Dabbers & Daubers: Monthly art sessions for children On the first Sunday of every month, starting on July 1st, 2018, Cyfarthfa Castle Museum and Art Gallery will host ‘Dabbers & Daubers’ an art session for children aged between 6 and 14. Every Sunday children will spend an hour in the galleries at Cyfarthfa Castle creating art using different techniques. Marbling, printing, collage and much more will be on offer for the young artists to experience. Spaces are limited and there is a fee of £2.00 per child. Booking in advance is recommended.

Monoprinting & Collage Workshop - Jul 1, 2018

Monoprinting & Collage Workshop We are pleased to announce the first of many artist led workshops at Cyfarthfa Castle Museum and Art Gallery. On July 1st, at 10am, we will be hosting a Monoprinting & Collage Workshop, led by Rhian Anderson. This workshop will be a combination of Collage & Monoprinting. Experiment with creating texture and surface using collage and watercolour. You will then be guided through the mono printing process to learn how to overlay and produce exquisite and unique artwork. Join us solo, with a friend or family member or partner and we will ensure you have a relaxing and mindful Sunday morning!

August 7 – 8 – Make your own magnificent hot air balloon! In 1847, a Mr. Gypson came to Merthyr Tydfil with his Hot Air Balloon. It was the first time that a hot air balloon had been flown in the town. Come and find out more and make your own mini hot air balloon decoration.
